Denis Sarazhin (b. 1982, Ukraine) is a contemporary painter living and working in New Jersey, USA. Working primarily in oil on canvas, he explores the relationship between memory, imagination, perception, and physical form.
The human figure has long been central to Sarazhin’s practice. In recent work, his focus has expanded toward an ambiguous world where figures, environments, and fragments of the natural and constructed world coexist. Familiar forms become distorted, displaced, or incomplete, occupying spaces that feel both recognizable and impossible.
Since 2026, Sarazhin has created his paintings entirely from memory and imagination, without photographic or other visual references. Forms are reconstructed intuitively, allowing remembered and imagined elements to shape the image. His paintings examine how reality is remembered, imagined, and transformed within the mind, moving between figuration and abstraction, recognition and disappearance.
Sarazhin graduated from the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts in 2008. His work has been exhibited in the United States and Europe, including solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles and Stuttgart. His work is held in public and private collections, including the New Salem Museum and Academy of Fine Art.
